Planting:

*** Acclimate to your new environment *** these trees have been in a dark box and should not be placed in direct sunlight or extreme heat or cold for a couple days. Place in a pot and protected area if you are experiencing these conditions.

All plants shipped should be planted into a container or directly in the ground. Very little fertilizer is needed for maples and conifers, we like to feed ours once a year with an all purpose organic 4-4-4, or a slow release 14-14-14, in early spring and another half dose again in July, or just use a basic rose fertilizer once in each month listed April, July. Adding composted organic matter to the existing soil (50/50 mix) while planting and a 1-3” mulch layer on top of the soil is the best thing you can do for your new tree. For potting in containers using composted bark to a high quality potting soil is ideal. For bonsai potting use the same mix with added peat moss and vermiculite. Place your maples in indirect light or if in full sun do not allow direct sun after 1-2pm, red leaf varieties will do fine in more sun. A slightly acidic 5.5-6 sandy loam soil with added organic matter is the ideal soil, in a pot make sure plenty of drainage is provided. In the ground if you have a dense clay soil, you must mound the tree up with a good draining mix. Always remember to mulch!!!

Conifers like the same environment as maples, the sun requirements vary by variety.

Bamboo likes lots of summer water, sun and nitrogen fertilizer, similar to a lawn.
